Spirited Wrapped
Â
It’s been a very testing experience finally getting Spirited into post but we’ve finally done it!
Â
The shoot took place as of the 31st May and lasted three days, covering a variety of locations across Birmingham. There was a lot to manage and a tight schedule to keep too but Tom and Julia had planned the production with great care and detail making my job a lot easier!
Â
We also had the largest crew either Tom or myself had worked with, meaning for once we didn’t have to dress the set ourselves or worry too much about costume or make up, bonus! These roles where filled by our very talented crew, who again made my job so much easier and helped the shoot to be very successful. I think we finishing promptly each day too, which I was well pleased with!
Â
The performances through the course of the three days where outstanding with each actor / actresses bringing a new life to set. I have to mention Margaret who was a true star throughout the production! She had been working night’s on Casualty the week before and although tired never showed it once, delivering a fantastic performance each take! In fact I think its far to say that most of the crew (including myself) fell in love with Margaret as she is such a great person to be around and a real joy to work with! Both Margaret and Joe’s down to Earth personalities made it very easy to direct them and I would gladly work with either again, if the opportunity presented itself!
Â
So with an amazing shoot and a great bond formed with both cast and crew we were absouletly distraught to find out that we had lost a days worth of filming due to a fault with the camera!
Â
To say I was crushed would be an understatement. To be honest I initially handled the whole situation extremely bad, where as Tom was able to keep a level head at all times. I just wanted this film to be truly great and it took Julia to pull me aside and shake me out of it, to realise we had a film to re shoot and a job still to be done.
Â
I can’t thank all of the Aquila team for being ever so supportive through that rough few weeks!
Â
It also turned out that in the end after Nat and I initially edited the film, with the unusable footage, we only needed around sixteen shots to be done again and these where all set within one location.
Â
So after some serious re working with a crew who where so supportive of our desire to re-shoot and a cast gratefully willing to give more time to the film, we managed to organise and now wrap on Spirited. The re shoot was a real lesson in life and film making and we wouldnt have a film now if it wasn’t for Aquila and Tom!
Â
Thanks so much to Tom, Nat, Julia and Rebecca as well as the crew and cast who have been amazing in bringing the film to life!!!
Â
Now its over to the skills of Nat!!!
