Spirited comes to Birmingham
This weekend Lewis will be directing new short film, ‘Spirited’. The project sees the young director working with established talents such as Margaret John (Gavin and Stacy) and Joe Dempsie (Skins), to name but a few.
He will be working alongside a talented and professional crew from the region who will be helping to bring to life the script which is written by Birmingham’s very own Liz John.Â
Look out for more news and videos on this subject!
No commentsthe time is near!
We are finally coming to the last few days of pre production since developing the idea last December and after working solidly on the film for the last month.
Considering over six weeks ago we had only our love of the script and an idea we have come along way, now we have a talented and professional crew backing our established and gifted talent and only three days separating us from the beginning of a very long three days.Â
Credit must go to Tom, who with a limited budget and the aid of Aquila’s Julia, has pulled together every aspect of the production to the highest degree.
The pressure is now on for me to deliver a film which represents the time, energy and effort put in by all the members of the crew!
Its fair to say Im both extremely excited about the prospect of shooting this film but at the same-time I am very, very, nervous and anxious. All we need now is the heavens to be on our-side and we could potentially have a great little movie on our hands!
Look out for the films production stills and our behind the scenes mini feature, which will be directed by David Knight and released on the soon to be created, Spirited short film website!

Last night I was pulled in very last minute, to direct a news item for Broad Street Bid and The Birmingham Mail on behalf of Aquila, www.birminghammail.net
The piece focused on Morgan Spurlock and his new documentary film, ‘Where in The World is Osama Bin Laden’. Spurlock graced Birmingham Broad Streets, ‘Cineworld’ to showcase the film and perform a Question and Answer session, staying for over an hour with a delighted audience.
No commentsSomething About Mary!
Another week has nearly passed us by and although we are still struggling to completely firm up the crew (make up/costume and art dep. are proving a problem) we have made some progress this week and have some great news.
So I can now confirm our delight in officially casting Margaret John as our lead actress Mary! You may recognize Margaret from her recent role as Doris from BBC three’s, ‘Gavin and Stacy’ but for the Boosh fans out there you’ll know her as Nanatoo from season two.
We are delighted to have her onboard as she is a real talent who will be able to bring to life our unique little short. Her confirmation came at just the right time as I was starting to stress a little that I didn’t have the films, Mary! We are now arranging to go to Swansea to meet Margaret and talk through the project in detail with her.Â
We can also confirm that we have managed to cast other great talents in Den Woods, Pushpinder Chani and Hugh Hemmings, who will also be taking up various roles within the film. For those unlucky people that have seen any of our films you will recognize Hugh as the lead from ‘Long-standing’ and we are delighted to have him back in this film as Mary’s (Margaret’s) husband.
We have also started scouting for the films various locations this week and with some help from various blog sites Tom managed to track down two great Tower Blocks which fit the spec’s of the script. However he did mention that he may have a third which is due for demolition sometime and is empty. This would be ideal as it would mean we wouldn’t have to disturb residents and could graffiti up and vandalize the property, as soon it will be just dust and rubble.Â
There is still a hell of a lot to do and my mission now, is to firm up a good crew, capable of making movie magic!
